Introduction
Determining the quality of service in various medical institutions is essential. This is only applicable through a comparative study by certain hospitals. Reports obtained are necessary to ascertain the different modes of care and their quality from known organizations within a given region. Information obtained is essential since it determines a hospital that provides emergency services and can be avoided. Also, comparative studies offer an understanding of healthcare standards for specific regions and areas. The paper aims to offer a comparative analysis of three sanatoria within New York and ascertain the cons and pros of information accessible concerning involved infirmaries and the overall medical and healthcare sector.
The NY Eye And Ear Infirmary
The main facility chosen for contrast and comparison was the NY Eye and Ear infirmary. The extra two infirmaries involved are VA New York Harbor Healthcare System and Beth Israel medical center. The selected hospitals deal with acute care. The second hospital entails acute care with experts’ management. The NY Eye and Ear infirmary is situated at 310 east 14th street. It provides acute care for patients suffering from eye and ear-related conditions. While the hospital lacks better emergency services, it incorporates a laboratory where patients can electronically access their results. The NY Eye and Ear infirmary are barren to emergency care features present in more than 90 percent of hospitals in New York (Medicare.gov, n.d.). In essence, the facility lacks surgery options for patients who need assistance in antibiotics that helps in preventing infections. However, regarding preventive care, the facility provides influenza vaccination to more than 80 percent of patients. The healthcare facility is also equipped with 66 percent of healthcare practitioners vaccinated against influenza (Medicare.gov, n.d.). The healthcare organization’s rate of deaths is congruent to that of the national rate regarding serious complications. The hospital is yet to record deaths pertaining to patients having severe complications after surgeries. In addition, the hospital lacks a huge number of patient readmissions and deaths (Medicare.gov, n.d.). Regardless of the better providence of services, the hospital still lags in rudimentary patient care amenities. Such include therapeutic imaging, one of the main hindrances of NY Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Beth Israel Medical Center
Beth Israel medical center is one of the reputable hospitals that also offer acute care. The hospital provides emergency services, one of the drawbacks of the NY Eye and Ear infirmary. The dual amenities are similar in that they provide their patients with lab results electronically. However, Beth Israel medical center provides a practice for operating blood vessels for heart attack victims, unlike NY Eye and Ear Infirmary. Moreover, the procedure is done within 90 minutes of a patient’s entrance (Medicare.gov, n.d.). Also, the facility has deaths after serious and complicated surgeries, similar to NY Eye and Ear Infirmary and the national rate. The rate is even better than the national records when the death rates of heart attack patients are included (Medicare.gov, n.d.). The hospital is better than the NY Eye and Ear Infirmary for providing imaging services that include stress tests before surgeries of low-risk casualties.
A New York Harbor Healthcare System
The VA New York Harbor Healthcare system also lacks emergency services to their patients. Similar to the NY Eye and Ear Infirmary, the hospital deficits services for heart attack care. However, it caters for 100 percent care to pneumonia patients by helping them with the most effective preliminary antibiotics (Medicare.gov, n.d.). Like NY Eye and Ear Infirmary, the VA New York Harbor Healthcare system lacks an emergency department and is bereft of preemptive care services. The facility has a clean record of surgical complications and deaths from patients with severe post-surgery complications. However, it is different from NY Eye and Ear Infirmary since it records heart attack patients at a similar rate to the national record (Medicare.gov, n.d.). Finally, it lacks an imaging service to its patients, just like NY Eye and Ear Infirmary.
The comparative study reveals basic patient care information. Such information is vital in evaluating the quality of care from various medical institutions. Healthcare facilitates mandated with providing such patient care parameters publically for transparency. Transparency is the key element for the growth of a healthcare facility. Also, such reports facilitate and motivate healthcare workers to consistently improve their patient care and processes to gain a competitive advantage. Reporting publicly reveals the transparency of an organization and thus, lacks a disadvantage.
Conclusion
NY Eye and Ear Infirmary offer better services to its patients. According to the comparison study, the facility only lacks an emergency department. However, it lacks a record of patient’s deaths or further surgeries for complications. Thus, it is reliable for the treatment of the ear and eye. Also, the used facilities for comparison offer excellent services. This is attributed to their low rates of death and surgeries from post-patient complications. The NY Eye and Ear Infirmary, VA New York Harbor Healthcare System, and Beth Israel Medical Center are dedicated and reliable facilities for treating various diseases and complications.
