Who?
The vulnerable people getting targeted in the campaign include older people living in poverty, the Functional Access Needs population, individuals belonging to certain religious groups, and people living with limitations that require assistance.
What?
The threat that the campaign will focus on will be Covid-19.
Where?
The campaign will take place in Wilmington, Delaware, since its focus is on vulnerable people who live in this area.
Why?
Covid-19 has ravaged the world and left millions of people infected and hundreds of thousands of people dead. Everyone is at risk of getting the disease and dying from it, but older people are at an even greater risk. Information published on the CDC website shows that 8 out of 10 people reported dead from Covid-19 in the US were older people aged 65 and above (CDC, 2020). As people get older, the severity of Covid-19 increases, which means that most older adults who test positive for the coronavirus may require hospitalization, ventilators to help them breathe, intensive care, or are at risk of dying. Also, most older adults have underlying medical conditions, which is one of the factors that contribute to the severity of the illness. Older people who do not have social security lack the means to get medical care, which means that if they contract the virus, they might find it hard to get the care they need.
Gatherings are one of the things that increase the risk of contracting Covid-19. Many different religious affiliations often require their followers to gather on certain days. Christians gather in churches, Jews gather in temples, and Muslims gather in mosques. When an infected person attends these gatherings, they will infect everyone who comes in contact with them. Those who contract the disease will also infect those they come in contact with; this increases the risk of the individuals getting infected if they attend religious gatherings.
Individuals with Functional and Access Needs and those with a limitation and require assistance may be classified under people living with a disability. The risk of this group contracting Covid-19 is high because of various reasons. These individuals may find it hard to practice social distancing because they need assistance from those around them; this increases their exposure to the virus. Some of them find it difficult to practice safety guidelines, such as hand washing (CDC, 2020). Some have underlying medical conditions, which further increases their risk of severe Covid-19 if they contract the illness. Finally, the outbreak has led to the disruptions of medical services they rely on since most healthcare systems are currently focusing on containing the virus.
When?
The urgency of the matter is why I propose that the campaign begin two weeks from today. More time wasted means that more people die since there is no vaccine, and each day more and more people are getting exposed to the virus.
How?
The campaign will focus on educating this population on how to stay safe. Prevention is the best practice at the moment. The message will encourage them to practice social distancing. Religious people will be encouraged not to mingle during gatherings. Those who need assistance will be encouraged to significantly lower the people they come in contact with i.e., get one person to assist them through the Covid-19 period. These individuals will also get encouraged to wash their hands. Those who attend religious gatherings should ensure that there are strategic places where they can wash their hands. Those with a disability will be encouraged to instruct their caregivers to help them wash their hands regularly. Finally, individuals with underlying medical conditions will be encouraged to care for themselves to reduce their risk of severity if they contract the illness. Finally, they will be encouraged to use online delivery services to lower their risk of exposure.
